Bangabandhu Amateur Badminton ends

Monday marked the end of the Bangabandhu Amateur Badminton Cup 2020, with both the men’s and women’s champions of the doubles tournament crowned.

Chief guest and State Minister for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel presented trophies to all the winners, along with distinguished guests such as World Sports Alliance Senior Advisor (Asia Pacific) Dr Zahid Haque, Air Asia GSA Tas Vice Chairman Sheikh Mamun and CEO Morshedul Alam Chakladar, AIM Sports Co-founders MD Islam, Atif Sobhan MD Adel and Ali Mohammad Hafiz, and AIM Sports Managing Partner Mirza Faiyaz Hossain.

The men’s final was an all Mirpur affair, with the team of Sonet and Hemal triumphing over that of Sohel and Ashfaq 2-1 sets.

After winning the first set 21-11 in a dream start, Sonet and Hemal convincingly lost the second 21-7. They finally emerged as the champions with a 21-17 victory in a nail-biting final set.

In the women's competition, 12-year-old Soha and 14-year-old Saba lifted the trophy after defeating Choity and Zumm in straight sets.

A total 32 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams participated in the tournament.

State Minister Zahid thanked the organizers at the closing ceremony, and urged them to organize more such events to nurture the talent of amateur sports stars around the country and help build unity.
