The Bangabandhu Amateur Badminton Cup 2020 kicked off at Shaheed Sohrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur Sunday.
The tournament is being presented by Air Asia, powered by AVL, and organized by AIM Sports in association with World Sports Alliance.
In the men’s competition, the top four doubles teams from eight areas of Dhaka participated in the group stage Sunday, with all four teams from Mirpur, and two teams each from Azimpur, Uttara and Banasree advancing to the round of 16.
At the end of the day, all four teams from Mirpur proceeded to the semi-finals.
The men’s championship is set to be decided today, while eight women’s teams take part in the women’s championship.
State Minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Jahid Ahsan Russel is set to be the chief guest at the prize giving ceremony, while World Sports Alliance Senior Advisor (Asia Pacific) Zahid Haque will be present as special guest.
All the founders of AIM Sports, Mirza Faiyaz Hossain, Mohammad Islam, Atif Sobhan Mohammad Adel and Ali Hafiz were present yesterday.
