World No 7 Hemayet Mollah and Jamalpur District School teacher Shamsunnahar Maksuda emerged as the champions in the men’s and women’s singles respectively in the three-day long Independence Day Carrom Tournament, organised by Bangladesh Carrom Federation.
In the men’s singles, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz finished as the runners-up while Mohammad Ali Robin ended third.
In the women’s singles, Sabina Akter of Eden College finished as the runners-up while Farhana Nasrin Lipi ended third.

The tournament began Friday and concluded Sunday night where the closing and presentation ceremony took place.
A total of 40 men and 10 women players from 10 districts took part in the competition.
