Bangladesh have earned a total of 21 medals including 13 golds till Monday evening at the ongoing 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The tournament, consisting of almost 7,000 athletes from 190 countries around the world, started on 14th March and it will continue till 21st March.
Bangladesh sent a 139-person contingent which is taking part in 11 events.
So far, Swimming has been the most prolific event for the athletes in red and green as they have clinched five gold medals from the event till the report was filed in.
Mokarom Hosen Joy earned gold in both 50M freestyle and 50M breaststroke in men’s event.
The women followed suit as Khushi Khatun won gold in 50M freestyle while Juthi Khatun was the winner of 50M breast stroke.
Rekha won gold in 50M freestyle and the swimmer also earned silver in 25M breast stroke.
Bocce, a ball game of Boules family, also was prolific for Bangladesh as it produced four gold medals. Ferdous Ikram Faisal, Nayeem Islam and Sadia Akhter Urmi earned golds in individual events while the four-person side also clinched one gold medal.
Abdul Kader Soron and Rashed Khan Jony won gold medals in singles of badminton while Sajjad Hossain Mustak and Bristy Khatun won gold medals in singles of table tennis.
Athletics team however could not bring any gold medal but they could fetch as many as four silver medals.
Russia were topping the medals tally with 73 medals tally including 38 gold while hosts UAE were in second with 86 medals including 36 gold.
