2017 Roll Ball World Cup: Bangladesh women crash out in pre-quarters

Bangladesh women finished as Group B champion but failed to maintain the momentum against Senegal, who ended below Uganda. Uganda defeated Nepal 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals. “We started our preparation two and a half months ago and had a one and a half month long camp. We had enough preparation but lost the game due to physical difference. They (Senegal) have better height and strength than our players,” said Bangladesh women's team coach Ashraful Alam Masum after the game. Among other matches in the knockout stage, Iran women's team outplayed Uruguay 6-0 at M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium to reach the last 16, along with Latvia, who defeated Pakistan 5-4 through golden ball after the stipulated and extra time ended 4-4 at Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex. Favourite India thrashed Denmark women's team 8-2 at Mirpur Indoor Stadium to confirm their berth in the quarters while Argentina defeated Slovenia 6-1 at Roller Skating Complex to reach the last eight. The pre-quarterfinal matches in the men's category will be held at three different venues on Tuesday as host Bangladesh men's team hope to continue their fine form when they take on Chinese Taipei at Mirpur Indoor Stadium in the morning. In the other quarters, reigning champion India, Bhutan, Argentina, Uruguay, Nepal, Belarus, Denmark play against Benin, Zambia, Kenya, Latvia, Ivory Coast, Pakistan and Iran respectively.
