Abahani Limited hockey team flew in three Pakistan national players yesterday to bolster their squad ahead of their big match against Usha Krira Chakra in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League next week. Meanwhile Usha threatened to boycott the league alleging the hockey federation of not taking necessary steps for the visa process of their Pakistani recruits. However, Usha officials hope that the matter will be solved today.
Defender Kashif Ali, midfielder Aamin Shahzad and attacking midfielder Mohammad Tauseeq landed in Dhaka yesterday to join the traditional Sky Blues while striker Hashim Khan is also expected to arrive by tomorrow.
Abahani, as they planned earlier, failed to rope in any Indian player as the I-League hockey is already underway.
Two of the three new signings - Aamir and Tauseeq - were in the Pakistan squad in last year’s Asia Cup Hockey.
“All three are very good players and they will definitely make our squad stronger,” said Abahani coach Mahbub Harun.
