Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) decided to serve show-cause notices to four senior players - Russell Mahmud Jimmy, Zahid Hossain, Qumruzzaman Rana, Imran Hasan Pintu along with coach Mahbub Harun and umpire Selim Lucky.
The decision was made in an executive committee meeting at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium yesterday following the reports submitted by coach Naveed Alam, manager Abdur Rashid Sikdar and the three-member fact-finding committee as the reason behind the national team’s failure in the AHF Asia Cup Hockey.
However, Bangladesh’s Pakistani head coach Naveed, skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Krishna Kumar, Pushkar Khisha Mimo and Mainul Islam Kaushik have also been warned by the hockey federation for their roles during the tournament.
The show-caused individuals will have to submit their answer by October 23. BHF president Air Marshal Enamul Bari briefed to the media after the meeting and spoke about the reason behind show-causing Jimmy and Mahbub Harun.
“He (Jimmy) was not regular during the training camp and didn’t stay at the camp. He didn’t follow the dress code and got involved with the club’s internal politics rather than concentrating on the national team. We also have reports that said he quarreled with the captain and vice captain,” said Enamul.
Meanwhile in Harun’s case the BHF chief said, “The report said that he (Harun) was involved with illegal activities starting from the Dhaka airport. He has been with the Bangladesh team for one and half year so we appointed him with Naveed Alam to help him as he knows many things about the team. But Harun didn’t co-operate with the head coach. We want him to explain his points to us.”
The fact-finding committee recommended applying code of conducts for the players and Enamul expects to run it before December 31. The president said, “BHF is trying to bring back the discipline among the players on and off the pitch.”
The committee also recommended forming national U-18 and U-21 team for the future and also to form a national team management committee to look after the team in future.
The BHF boss, however, didn’t mention any reason specifically, but pointed out several reasons behind Asia Cup debacle that includes continuous interruption during the camp, non unity in the team, dishonesty and indiscipline among the players.
