A combination of current and former national hockey players numbering five received bail to get out of jail yesterday after Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) general secretary Khwaja Rahmatullah filed a case against them five days ago for threatening their fellow players and head coach Naveed Alam.
The order was given by a High Court double bench of Justices - Naima Haider and Mostofa Zaman Islam - that accepted an eight-day bail for the players.
The case had been filed at the Paltan Police Station on August 31 against Russell Khan Bappi, the president of the Hockey Players Welfare Association, Ariful Haque Prince, the general secretary of the association, and players Asaduzzaman Chandan, Ashiquzzaman and Shamsuddin Tuhin who were also banned by BHF for their involvement in the incident in which a chair was thrown at Naveed Alam as he was talking to the national players.
Meanwhile, Swadhin Bangla Football Team through a press release yesterday,demanded the immediate withdrawal of the bans imposed upon the five hockey players by the BHF.
