Bangladesh squad named for World Hockey League Round 2

The announcement came after Bangladesh hockey team ended their three-match friendly series against Ghana with a solitary 1-0 win against the west African nation at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the afternoon. After all their practice matches abroad got canceled due to several reasons, Bangladesh organised three warm-up games against the Ghanaians at home. The home side started with a 2-1 defeat in the first match before being held to a 2-2 draw in the second. Wednesday's 1-0 win boosted the confidence of Russel Mahmud Jimmy and Co ahead of the big tournament. Drag-and-flick specialist Mamunur Rahman Chayan netted the only goal of the game in the 11th minute from a penalty corner. The 18-man squad was given out hours after the final practice match. A group of young players from the U-18 national side were called up to the squad for their vibrant presence in the last 12 months. Defender Ashraful Islam, star of the Junior Asia Cup Hockey last year, remained in the squad, along with fellow youngsters Romman Sarkar, Arshad Hossain and Sarwar Hossain. Star forward Jimmy will captain the team, to be coached by German Oliver Kurtz. Bangladesh will face Malaysia in their opening match this Saturday.
