Bangladesh golfer Siddikur Rahman enjoyed his equal-best result on the Asian Tour this season with a joint third placed finish after battling to a five-over-par 77 at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters while Australia’s Scott Hend overcame a treacherous conditions posting 74 to win the $600,000 event at the Taiwan Golf and Country Club yesterday.
In a general view Siddikur's 77 seems like a very bad score, but facing with the onslaught of Typhoon Fitow, where torrential rain and gusty winds up to 55mph posed the greatest threat, no one, but Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant (71) was able to card under or equal the par-score in the final round.
The 2010 Brunei Open winner started the day brilliantly with two birdies in opening five holes, but the disastrous condition forced him to make seven woeful bogeys in the remaining holes to make his four-day total of 291 to hold the overnight position.
The score was just enough for the 29-year-old to keep him on the hunt to climb to ninth in the Asian Tour Order of Merit while he earned $36,000 from the richest Asian Tour event staged in Chinese Taipei this season.
The Bangladeshi was delighted to claim his place at the lucrative CIMB Classic with his result which was last qualifying event for players to break into the top-10 on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
“It was a great week especially playing under such tough conditions. I’m not disappointed even though I didn’t played that well today. Only Thaworn broke par today and that says a lot about the conditions out there,” said Siddikur.
