BTI Golf tees off today

The four day BTI International Golf Championship begins at the Kurmitola Golf Club today. Siddikur Rahman, the preeminent golfer of the country and the reigning champion, will not participate as he is currently playing in Chinese Taipei.

Shakhawat Hossian Sohel, Jamal Hossian Mollah and Dulal Hossain, the other renowned names on the local golfing circuit, will play along with a number of foreign golfers - including ace Nepalese Sanjay Lama.

The total prize money at the tournament is Tk3m. At a press conference at the BTI Celebration Point yesterday, BTI managing director F.R. Khan said that he hoped the tournament would help the game to develop in the country. “Bangladesh is making a mark internationally in the field of sports. In keeping pace with these changes and in promoting our sportsmen, this tournament aims to broaden the horizon of golf in our country and to further distinguish ourselves on an international platform,” he said.

Executive Director of BTI Ashique Un Nabi, president of BPGA Arshi Haider, BPGA officials  Gen Salim Akhtar (retd.), Brig Gen Abidur Reza Khan (retd), and Col Sarder Hassan Kabir (retd.), CEO of Kurmitola Golf Club were also present on the occasion.
