In-form Nigerian striker Nkwocha Kingsley netted a late brace as Brothers Union registered only their fourth victory in the Bangladesh Premier League beating Team BJMC 4-1 at Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday.
Brothers are slowly inching closer to the top half of the 12-team points table after two consecutive wins. They are now seventh with 17 points from 13 matches while BJMC sit a place below them with three points less from the same number of games.
Shafiqul Islam Shofi gave Brothers the breakthrough with only three minutes into the clock after the midfielder's shot from outside the box beat the onrushing BJMC goalkeeper Arifuzzaman Hemel on its way to the back of the net.
Augustin Walson bagged a brilliant goal from a free-kick in the 62nd minute to double the lead. The Haitian striker unleashed a precise free-kick from 25 yards that curled home into the top-right corner.
Samson Illiasu pulled one back five minutes later. A free-kick fell onto a goal-mouth scramble when Illiasu collected the ball and took a shot that deflected off a defender before rolling inside the net.
Kingsley sealed victory two minutes before the end of stipulated time with a lovely right-foot finish into the far post after exchanging passes with Walson.
The Nigerian striker completed his quick brace three minutes later slotting home in a one-on-one situation with the custodian inside the box. It was Kingsley's 13th league goal this season.
Meanwhile in the day's other match at the same venue, Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra and Arambagh Krira Sangha played out a goalless draw. Both the sides have the same number of points (19) but Muktijoddha are above Arambagh at fifth due to a superior goal difference.
Arambagh had two great chances in the opening 10 minutes but Muktijoddha netminder Mamun Khan and defender Nigerian defender Nojeem Busayo exhibited brilliant defensive display to keep the scoresheet nil.RESULTSBrothers Union 4 (Shafiq 3, Walson 62, Kingsley 88, 90+1) 1 Team BJMC (Illiasu 67)Muktijoddha 0 0 Arambagh
