Abahani’s new coach Kottan arrives today

Former Hungarian-Austrian football coach of Bangladesh, George Kottan, will arrive in Dhaka today to take over the role of head coach of top-flight club Abahani Limited.

The 68-year old coach, who guided Bangladesh to the 2003 Saff Championship title in Dhaka, will fill the shoes of Iranian coach Ali Akbar Parmoslemi. Kottan left the Bangladesh job in 2003 before coaching local outfit Muktijoddha Sangsad. Kottan won the Federation Cup title with Muktijoddha in 2005.

In 2009, he was appointed the head coach of Pakistan and guided them in the 2010 South Asian Games in Dhaka.

The veteran coach is an Uefa pro-license holder and prior to his arrival in Bangladesh, he was working in Germany as an instructor. He also coached Indian I-League outfit Churchill Brothers in 2006.

Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu believes Kottan’s vast experience will help the team. “He is very much involved with the game. Age is not a factor. I hope he will deliver the required bite in the team.”
