Titu set to take national team charge temporarily

Saiful Bari Titu is bracing for another stint as the head coach of the national football team when they take on the visiting Japan Under-21 team on December 18.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) previously thought of appointing Slovenian Ermin Siljak as the head coach of the national team on a short-term basis, including the Japan tie. Football’s governing body, however, decided to change their plans slightly.

“We may appoint Siljak for the Bangabandhu Gold Cup and it will be a test project. And against the Japan U-21 team, Saiful Bari Titu will be guiding the team. He (Titu) is currently abroad for his coaching diploma. He will return this Saturday and after he comes back, along with the two teams (Abahani and Sheikh Jamal) from the King’s Cup, we will start the national camp,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag.

Meanwhile, Siljak submitted his curriculum vitae to BFF president Kazi Salahuddin at the start of this month. After the departure of Dutch coach Lodewijk de Kruif, Titu guided the Bangladesh team in two Fifa international friendlies at home against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh won the series 1-0.
