Abahani Limited must not lose points in order to keep alive their hopes for the last four when they take on Nepalese A-Division League champions Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) at the King’s Cup in Thimphu, Bhutan today.
The traditional Sky Blues began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Assam Electricity but they stumbled in their second Group B match by conceding a shocking 1-0 defeat against Bhutan National League outfit Ugyen Academy.
As the group table stands, Abahani are fourth with three points while Indian League side Pune FC top the table with six points. Ugyen and MMC are second and third respectively with the same number of points (three) but the former have a better goal difference. The top two teams of the group will get the ticket for the semifinals which means a defeat for Abahani today will shatter their hopes of a last-four berth.
The four-time professional league champions of Bangladesh will face Pune in their last group match this Tuesday.
