Foreign players’ quota set at three for BPFL

The foreign players’ quota for the 2014-15 Bangladesh Premier Football League (BPL) season has been reduced from four to three, confirmed the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) yesterday. A club can register upto five foreigners in their squad but can play three in the starting eleven. The registration number of the foreign players was previously seven.

The local players, however, are likely to pass a very hectic time in the last month of this year as the BFF has set the players’ transfer window for the next season from November 12-December 11 this year. The decisions were taken in a professional football league committee meeting at the BFF House yesterday. The committee also confirmed the names of the two participating clubs for the King’s Cup Tournament in Sri Lanka scheduled to be held next month.

BPL champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited and four-time professional league champions Abahani Limited will represent Bangladesh in Colombo. Team BJMC and Arambag KS earlier took part in the previous edition of the event but neither of them could reach the last four.

With two friendly matches against the Japanese Olympic football team slated for mid-December this year and the Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament scheduled to be held in the same month, the local footballers will go through a very busy time in December.

The new date of the transfer window has also diminished the chances of holding the Super Cup this season. However, the committee has not yet given up hope saying a final decision on the cash-rich Super Cup will be taken in their next meeting.
