Fazley Rabbi Moon’s lone strike was enough to see Dhaka Tribune beat Somoy TV 1-0 and reach the final of the Kool-BSJA Media Cup Football Tournament yesterday. Dhaka Tribune will face My TV, who beat The Daily Star 1-0 in the other semifinal, in the final of the 25-media house participated tournament at 10am at the Bangladesh Football Federation artificial turf in Motijheel today.
The scoreline of the first semifinal, however, does not reflect the dominating game played by Dhaka Tribune. Somoy TV’s rough and tough approach from the beginning of the game hardly made Dhaka Tribune sweat as it was the flurry of passes and possession football from the English Daily that eventually earned them their third clean sheet in four games. On the way to the final Dhaka Tribune earlier beat Naya Diganta (4-0) and Channel i (6-1) in the group stage and defending champions RTV (2-0) in the quarter-finals.
In the 7th minute of the game a counter attack saw Reazur Rahman Rohan drill a through pass across the midfield to Moon who hammered in a right-footed strike from the right to beat the goalkeeper at far post. Moon was later adjudged as the man of the match and he received the award from former national footballer Mahbub Hossain Roxy.
Former Bangladesh national football coach Golam Sarwar Tipu will be present as chief guest during the final today.
