Farashganj, Wari found guilty of fixing BCL match

The alleged Bangladesh Championship League match between Farashganj Sporting Club and Wari Club was fixed, revealed the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) yesterday.

The second phase match of the Bangladesh Championship League took place at the Kamalapur Stadium on May 21. The professional league committee of BFF, however, has not yet decided the penalty for the involved parties, but assured to take a decision in their next meeting on August 24.

At worst, Farashganj might be penalised by losing their promotion to the top flight football after the old Dhaka outfits finished second in the concluded BCL points table. The match that has been found fixed ended in a 3-2 win in the favour of Farashganj.

Meanwhile, the other suspected match between Agrani Bank and Badda Jagarani Sangshad on May 20 was cleared by the Fixed Match Finding Committee headed by Humayun Khaled.

Senior vice president of BFF Abdus Salam Murshedy confirmed, “After a long investigation, the committee finally found that the match was fixed. After the recommendation from the committee, we also found the evidence that the match was fixed after observing the video footage of the match.”

“We will decide their punishment for fixing a match during our next meeting on August 24 and the culprits will get the highest punishment according to the bylaws,” he said before adding the guilty will not get any sympathy from the federation.

In the fixed match, Wari started off in blazing fashion going 2-0 up in the first-half but all the calculation took a u-turn after Farashganj netted three goals in the second-half to seal a vital victory that confirmed their promotion to the Bangladesh Premier League as the league runners-up.

Other clubs in the league complained about the match and claimed the match was fixed after which the BFF referred the cast to the Fixed Match Finding Committee.
