Sheikh Jamal DC tasted their first defeat in the Bangladesh Premier Football League this season when a spirited Brothers Union edged past the table leaders 1-0 to end their 20-match unbeaten run at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
The last time Jamal lost was against Sheikh Russel on 1st May of 2013. However, Brothers forward Rubel Miah’s second-half strike broke the 13-month winning streak.
Rubel put Brothers with the all-important goal two minutes into the second-half. The defeat although didn’t change Jamal’s position in the league as they still have a seven-point lead at top.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Sheikh Russel also conceded a shocking defeat away to relegation battling Chittagong Abahani.
From bottom of the table, the Chittagong Sky Blues climbed to eighth place leaving Soccer Club Feni and Uttar Baridhara in panic. They now have 13 points from 20 matches, one more than the bottom two sides.
