Bangladesh suffered a 1-0 defeat to Singapore in their second Group A match of the FIFA Asean Cup 2026 at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday.
Harhys Stewart scored the only goal in the first half, which proved decisive as Singapore secured their third straight victory over Bangladesh.
Following a cross from Nur Adam Abdullah, Harhys headed home in the 35th minute after Bangladesh goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon had made a couple of important saves.
Srabon first denied Ilhan Fandi with a diving save in the 17th minute before rescuing Bangladesh from a goalmouth scramble in the 33rd minute.
The men in red and green piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser throughout the second half but could not find the net, with headers from Shamit Shome and Saad Uddin missing the target.
Shamit's flying header from a Saad cross went over the bar, while Saad headed wide from substitute Fahamedul Islam's cross. Hamza Choudhury was pushed further forward in the closing stages, but Bangladesh could not find a way through.
Bangladesh coach Thomas Dooley made four changes to the starting XI that lost 3-0 to Malaysia in their tournament opener on Friday.
Centre-back Zidane Yousuf, midfielder Jamal Bhuiyan, and forward Sheikh Morsalin came into the lineup in place of Shakil Ahad Topu, Sohel Rana, and Fahamedul Islam while Shuki Itofusa replaced Farhaan Ali Wahid.
In the second half, Minhaz Shadin replaced Morsalin to make his international debut.
It was the third meeting between Bangladesh and Singapore in the last 15 months, with Singapore winning all three encounters.
Bangladesh have now recorded three draws and remain without a victory against the Southeast Asian side.
The men in red and green will face hosts and tournament favourites Indonesia in their final group-stage fixture at the same venue on Thursday.
