Spanish champions Barcelona have reached an agreement with Newcastle United for the signing of England international Anthony Gordon, according to reports confirmed to AFP on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old winger is set to become Barcelona’s first signing of the summer transfer window as the Catalan giants begin rebuilding their attack following the departure of veteran Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
According to an internal source contacted by AFP, Barcelona’s offer worth €70 million, along with an additional €10 million in performance-related bonuses, was accepted by the Premier League side. The move is expected to be officially announced by the end of the week.
Gordon, who was recently named in England’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, is regarded as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic attacking players. Primarily a left winger, he is also capable of operating through the middle, giving Barcelona added flexibility in attack.
The Liverpool-born forward came through the youth system at Everton before making a high-profile move to Newcastle in 2023 for a reported fee of around €50 million. Since then, he has established himself as a key figure for the Magpies with his pace, direct running and goal-scoring ability.
Gordon also impressed in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances. He faced Barcelona twice during the tournament, performances that reportedly strengthened the Spanish club’s interest in securing his signature.
Spanish media reports suggest that Gordon’s arrival may not end Barcelona’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements this summer, with the club still exploring additional options to further strengthen their frontline ahead of the new season.
Barcelona, who recently regained financial flexibility after years of economic difficulties, are expected to be active in the transfer market as they look to build a squad capable of competing strongly in both La Liga and Europe next season.
