Sabina, Krishna hit brace as Bangladesh crush Sri Lanka to move on top

Bangladesh Women’s Futsal team came from behind to register an impressive 6–3 victory over Sri Lanka in a high-scoring clash of the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship 2026 at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the competition.

The victory sent lifted Bangladesh on the top of seven-team points table.

Bangladesh earned 10 points from four matches with three wins and a draw while India and Pakistan have 9 and 7 points respectively from the same number of outings.

The match saw a dramatic first period as Sri Lanka struck twice through Shanu Paskaran (13th minute) and Imesha W.M. Kankanamlage (16th) to take early control.

However, Bangladesh captain Sabina Khatun led a spirited comeback, scoring twice in quick succession in the 18th and 20th minutes to restore parity at 2–2 by the end of the opening half.

Bangladesh took full command after the break, dominating possession and capitalising on defensive lapses. Sumaya Matsushima gave Bangladesh the lead in the 29th minute, before Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar added another in the 36th to extend the advantage.

Sri Lanka attempted a late response when Imesha Kankanamlage netted her second goal in the 40th minute, but Bangladesh remained relentless. Masura Parvin struck in the 38th minute, while Krishna completed her brace at the death to seal a convincing win.

The match featured intense physical battles, with Bangladesh committing five fouls in the second period, but they maintained composure throughout.

Bangladesh will face Pakistan next on Friday before concluding fixture against Maldives Sunday.
