Australian Nathan Hall Abahani’s new coach

After an unproductive spell with Iranian coaches, Abahani Limited had been searching for a new foreign coach since the last season ended and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) giants finally landed Nathan Hall, the former Australian association footballer. Hall, who was interviewed by Abahani last week, will take charge of the four-time BPL champions from October 20. Hall, with whom Abahani started talks a few weeks ago, was the head coach of Indian I-League club United Sikkim that became the I-league second division champions in 2012 to get promoted to the first division. Kazi Nabil Ahmed, the director of Abahani and national team committee chairman, confirmed the appointment of the Australian coach yesterday, texting that Hall will join the club on October 20. At a young age, Hall began his coaching career with minor roles with state league clubs Sutherland Sharks FC and Sydney based club APIA Leichhardt Tigers Under-20 team. Later, Hall joined Thai Premier League side Thai Port as assistant coach. The Australian coach took extended his resume when United Sikkim FC appointed him as head coach in November 2012, replacing interim player-coach Baichung Bhutia. Abahani started their pre-season training on September 15. Abahani went without a title in the last two seasons under Iranian coaches Ardeshir Pournemat. The year before that, Iranian Ali Akbar led them to the league title. Last season, the club could not even finish second in any of the competitions and even failed to qualify for the second round of the AFC President’s Cup.
