Bangladesh U17 boys rout Brunei 8-0 in Asian Cup qualifiers

The Bangladesh U17 national team handed Brunei Darussalam a crushing 8-0 defeat in their second Group A fixture of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Chongqing, China on Monday.

Opu Rahman and Rifat Kazi scored a brace each, while skipper Nazmul Huda Faysal, Md Manik, Md Arif, and Bayzit Bostami added one goal apiece for the boys in red and green.

Golam Rabbani Choton’s charges opened the scoring in the 12th minute when a pass from Faysal found Opu, who struck the ball into the net. Eleven minutes later, Rifat dribbled past two defenders and finished with a clean shot to double the lead.

Ihsan Habib Riduan then delivered a brilliant pass to Faysal, who calmly placed the ball into the net in the 36th minute. The fourth goal followed a minute later, as Manik scored with a powerful long-range effort.

Bangladesh continued to pile pressure on their opponents after the break. Opu converted another Riduan pass in the 50th minute to make it 5-0.

In the 74th minute, Faysal’s long-range effort was initially saved by the goalkeeper, but Rifat pounced on the rebound to score his second goal of the match.

Two minutes later, Arif found the net for the first time, capitalizing on a loose ball in a crowded penalty area.

Bayzit completed the rout in the 79th minute as Bangladesh sealed their second straight win in the qualifiers, following their 5-0 thrashing of Timor-Leste in the opening fixture on Saturday.

Head coach Choton credited the players for executing the game plan. He also said, “The boys played attacking and positive football from the beginning. They maintained the intensity for 90 minutes, kept the possession and utilized the chances well.”

On their journey to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026, Bangladesh are placed in Group A alongside Bahrain, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste, and hosts China.

They will face Sri Lanka next in their third fixture on Wednesday.
