Cabrera: A result we were not expecting

Bangladesh’s head coach Javier Cabrera said they deserved at least a point after the way his charges played during the 2-1 defeat against Singapore in Dhaka Tuesday.

“Definitely a result that we were not expecting, we didn't want to have,” said the Spanish coach at the post-match press conference.

Bangladesh conceded late in the first half and at the beginning of the second. Cabrera said both goals could have been avoided.

“I think the match started quite in the way we wanted to happen – very energetic, pressing high. We made some mistakes in those 15-20 minutes. We dropped in energy, we dropped in the pressure,” the coach said.

After pulling one back, the hosts kept Singapore defense busy in search of the equalizer.

“I think we should be proud of the performance, especially in the second half. The team has been brave to go with everything. We have had chances or even probably deserve, I think, at least a point,” he said.

“I think we have been quite close to draw the match but we were not able to convert any of those last chances. I think that if the match finishes 2-2, would have been probably the fairest result.”
