Cabrera: Shamit adapting very well

Shamit Shome arrived in Bangladesh the day the team played Bhutan last week.

He watched the game from the stands as Bangladesh won comfortably by 2-0.

It has been only five days since he travelled all the way from Canada and joined Bangladesh squad for the first time.

Bangladesh’s head coach Javier Cabrera though said Shamit has adapted well in a short time with few training sessions under his belt.

“Shamit is adapting very well. His relation with all the teammates is also very humble. He is open to everything regarding tactics, technique, technical (aspects). He's getting along with everyone very well,” said the Spanish coach Monday.

Cabrera hinted in the pre-match press conference that the Canadian-Bangladeshi midfielder could well make his debut against Singapore Tuesday.

“The impression is that he's actually ready, even on training sessions, the pace he has and the understanding, he is very interested in understanding the game model or the idea as soon as possible with several individual meetings,” said Cabrera.

“He is also requesting some videos, so very positive about his addition,” the coach added.

Shamit

Bangladesh will host Singapore for their second AFC Asian Cup qualifier fixture.

The game will be held at the newly-renovated National Stadium in Dhaka.

If Shamit plays, it will strengthen Bangladesh’s midfield which has already been bolstered by the addition of Hamza Choudhury.

Shamit earlier played for different national youth and senior teams of Canada.

He currently plays for Cavalry FC in the Canadian top-flight league.

Shamit decided to play for Bangladesh, the birthplace of his parents, last April.

In early May, Bangladesh Football Federation received approval from FIFA as Shamit switched allegiance to the men in red and green.

All happened in double-quick time to give Bangladesh football fans hope of a bright new era.
