Cabrera urges for patience with Sunderland youth player Mitchell

Newly promoted Premier League outfit Sunderland’s Under-21 midfielder Cuba Mitchell has applied for Bangladesh passport in his bid to represent the red and green in international arena.

When queried if there is any possibility to include Mitchell in the squad against Singapore on June 10, Bangladesh head coach Javier Cabrera urged for patience.

Cabrera said, “That you will have to speak probably to us in the national team committee to get better understanding of his situation right now with his documentation and the procedure.

“He is a player with potential, definitely. But again, with all these young potential players, which are very talented, we need to be patient and careful.”

Mitchell confirmed his decision to play for Bangladesh in April after Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury made his debut against India the previous month.

The U-19 central midfielder made seven appearances for the Black Cats’ U-21 team in the 2024-25 season of Premier League 2.

He moved to Sunderland U-18 team from Birmingham Academy in 2022 before joining Sunderland U-21 side in July last year.
