The Dhaka Tribune swept into the last 16 phase as the Kool-BSJA Media Cup Football Tournament got underway in the capital’s Paltan area Monday.
Amid searing morning heat, DT beat ATN News 2-0 in the round of 32 with Nafiul Azam breaking the deadlock and Shekhar Mondal doubling the advantage; captain Fazley Rabbi Moon assisting both the goals.
DT will take on either Dhaka Post or Daily Star Wednesday morning.
Alongside DT, Baishakhi TV, Jugantor, News24, Prothom Alo, ATN Bangla, Channel i and Desh TV also progressed to the round of 16.
The other eight last 16 participants will be decided after Tuesday’s matches.
Bangladesh Football Federation president Tabith Awal graced his presence as the chief guest on the opening day of the knockout tournament, organised every year by the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.
In his speech, Tabith said, “I thank the BSJA for organising this competition regularly. The media people also love football, and it is reflected through this tournament. BFF will send photos and videos of the Media Cup Football Tournament to FIFA. FIFA grassroot week is ongoing. Non-traditional football is also included in grassroot. Besides pictures, we will send the tournament’s narrative to FIFA.”
