Maldives and Afghanistan confirmed their place in the Saff Championship semi-finals from Group B with convincing victories in Kathmandu yesterday.
Afghanistan won 3-1 against Sri Lanka at the Armed Forces Ground while Maldives thrashed Bhutan 8-2.
Sri Lanka scored in the 36th minute through Mohamed Fazal, but failed to maintain the lead. Rafi leveled the score in the 63rd minute beforeFakruddin put Afghanistan ahead in the 72nd minute. Hasmatullah scored in dying minutes to secure a 3-1 victory for Afghanistan.
For Maldives Ali Ashfaq scored another four to take his tally to 10 goals in two matches. Ali Fasir scored a brace and the other two were netted by Ali Umar and MdUmair.
