Football season set for kick-off as Kings face Mohammedan in first ever Challenge Cup

Bangladesh’s new domestic football season is all set to roll on the pitch as defending treble winners Bashundhara Kings take on Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited for the inaugural Bangladesh 2.0 Challenge Cup 2024-25 title Friday.

The Challenge Cup is an annual match like the FA Community Shield where the champions of previous Bangladesh Premier League and Federation Cup face off.

As the Kings are the holders of both the Premier League and Fed Cup, the league runners-up Mohammedan became the other team of the Challenge Cup.

The 2024-25 season opening game will be held in the capital’s Kings Arena.

Bashundhara Group is the title sponsor of the Challenge Cup 2024-25.

After this, the curtain raiser tournament of the season, Federation Cup 2024-25, will start on December 3 with the participation of 10 top-flight clubs.

Last season, indomitable Kings were almost unbeatable.

They conceded only one defeat throughout the league to finish with 45 points, 10 more than their closest challengers.

Their unbeaten campaign in the Federation Cup was wrapped up with victory over Mohammedan in the final which was decided by an extra-time winner.

Can Mohammedan turn their fortunes around or will Kings keep on winning and lift the first Challenge Cup trophy?
