Bangladesh conceded a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions India in the final of the SAFF Under-17 Championship 2024 in Thimphu, Bhutan Monday.
India appeared too good for Bangladesh in terms of keeping possession.
Two fine finishes including one late in stoppage time put paid to Bangladesh’s chances.
The junior Bengal Tigers kept the fort protected in the first half.
They relied mostly on counter attacks and created a very good chance to equalize.
Mohammed Kaif grabbed the opener in the 58th minute through a header before Mohammad Arbash doubled the lead one minute before the final whistle, in the 95th minute.
India also won the competition’s 2023 edition in U-16 format, beating Bangladesh in the final by similar margin.
It was also held in Thimphu.
The road was a difficult one for Bangladesh all the way through to the final.
They overcame all the difficulties en route to the final but it was not to be in the end.
