Jamal left without a club, Abahani without foreigner

Bangladesh national football team skipper Jamal Bhuiyan was left without a club in the Bangladesh Premier League after the end of the transfer window deadline day Thursday.

Jamal joined Abahani Limited during mid-transfer window ahead of the second phase of the league last season after playing for Argentina’s lower-tier club Sol de Mayo.

This time, Abahani formed a squad without signing any foreign players.

The club has been struggling since the change of political atmosphere in the country.

Abahani registered 32 players for this season and all are local players.

The political changes saw two former premier league champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra left without their key sponsors and thus withdraw from the league this season.

The rest of the clubs (10) completed their registration.

Chittagong Abahani, Dhaka Wanderers and Brothers Union were among the clubs who completed the registration formalities at the eleventh hour Thursday.

Eventually, it was surprising to see Jamal, the Denmark-born midfielder, without a club in the country’s top-flight league where he played for more than a decade.
