The first 40-minute performance in the previous match and unbeaten record at the Kings Arena are inspiring Bangladesh in their bid to come back against Palestine in the return home fixture of the World Cup qualifiers in the capital Tuesday afternoon.
The men in red and green suffered a 5-0 loss to the Arab country in Kuwait City last Thursday after starting the game on a bright note.
Despite the biggest-margin defeat against Palestine in less than a week, Bangladesh’s coach and captain set their target for at least a point against the same superior opponent at the home ground.
“The result of the first match was disappointing for many people but we are also aware that there were many positives in the first half in which we competed in very high level,” said head coach Javier Cabrera at the pre-match press conference Monday.
“It was a great experience for the team. We now need to focus to give something good to the fans and hopefully get a point.
“We know how it is important playing at home. We expect a very good atmosphere once again at Kings Arena where we are still unbeaten.”
Skipper Jamal Bhuiyan also echoed the same sentiment, eyeing at least a point against the visitors.
Palestine coach Makram Daboub expects a tough encounter at a new ground but warned that they are here for all three points.
“We respect every team. We respect Bangladesh but we are here for a target,” Daboub told reporters.
The Tunisian coach also praised Bangladesh’s prospects as an improved side.
He said: “Coming here to face an improved Bangladesh team is not an easy job. It won’t be an easy game. This match is a bit difficult but we are here for a goal and our goal is three points.”
Bangladesh sit at the bottom of Group I with a single point earned against Lebanon at home while Palestine have four points to stay above as favorites for the game kicking off at 3:30pm local time.
