The Dhaka Tribune will face Therap BD on the opening day of the 8th Ascent Corporate 5-A-Side Indoor Soccer Cup, as the nine-day tourney kicks off at the STM Hall of Scholastica School, Uttara today.
A total of 48 corporate houses, split into 16 groups, are taking part in the 8th eidition of the meet. Dhaka Tribune is placed in Group M alongside Therap BD and Pepsi. The Tribe will play their second game against Pepsi tomorrow.
A press conference was held at a city hotel yesterday to disclose the details of the meet. The official draw ceremony also took place during the presser. Ascent Group has been the title sponsor for the last 6 years and they are the title sponsors this year too. The organisers confirmed that this year, Securex joined as an associate sponsor for the tournament while Dell Computers will be the co-sponsor.
“We have been blessed with the success of the annual event now for eight years and with each passing year, the enthusiasm with the corporate community grows in leaps and bounds and this is what the corporate games are all about,” said organiser of the tournament and chief executive officer of Securex Farhan Quddus.
“Over the last eight years, we have had hundreds of teams playing, interacting socially out of the office, bonding with their teams, networking and keeping with the spirit of the game of football. It is a healthy form of competition,” he added.
Managing director of Ascent Group Madiha Murshed, chief executive officer of Dell Bangladesh Sonia Bashir Kabir, Zarah Anjuman Quddus, proprietor, Excalibur Entertainment and Amer Ahmed, director of Ascent Group were also present on the occasion.
