Oscar Bruzon, the head coach of Bashundhara Kings, called visiting Mohun Bagan favorites ahead of Tuesday’s crucial AFC Cup home fixture against the Indian giants.
Unbeaten Bagan are leading Group D with seven points from three matches while Kings, the Bangladesh champions, sit second with four points having made the same number of outings.
“We are looking forward to be competitive and contest the top position of the group. We are aware of the strength of Bagan. They are a big club,” said Bruzon at the pre-match conference Monday.
The last encounter between the two sides held at the end of last month ended 2-2 when Bagan hosted the match in Odisha instead of their Kolkata home ground due to the city celebrating Durga Puja.
Bruzon called Bagan favorites and his side underdogs.
The Spaniard also explained why but is determined nonetheless to surprise the visitors capitalizing on home advantage.
“The difference is in budget. They [Bagan] are leading Indian Super League, the most competitive league in South Asia, and AFC Cup. Knowing this, we are looking forward, really excited and trying to put all our efforts to bring positive result," said Bruzon.
“Tomorrow [Tuesday] we are having the home advantage of playing against probably the best team of the sub-continent.”
Bagan arrived in Dhaka Monday and had their lone training session at the match venue of Kings Arena in the evening.
