Registration of foreign footballers increases to six

Each Bangladesh Premier League club can sign maximum six players for the upcoming 2023-24 football season and field four players at a time, announced professional league management committee after a meeting at BFF House Monday.

The number was five in the squad and three at a time of the match in the previous season but considering the new rule for AFC club competitions where teams will be able to field six foreigners, the BFF also decided to change its own regulation.

If a club sign more than three foreign players, one footballer must be from an Asian country affiliated by the Asian Football Confederation.

Each BPL club now can register maximum 36 players, one more than last season.

The committee also declared the players' registration window for the upcoming season which will open Tuesday and continue until October 18.

The season opening Independence Cup is scheduled to kick off on October 27 with the participation of 14 clubs, including 11 BPL outfits who play the competition directly.

It was also decided that three clubs from the second-tier Bangladesh Championship League will get promoted to the top flight league for the 2024-25 season while two BPL teams will get relegated.

The meeting was presided by the committee's chairman and Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin.
