Former men's national team head coach Saiful Bari Titu has been given the responsibility of the Bangladesh women's football side for the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to be held in China later this year.
Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salahuddin and women's wing committee chairman Mahfuza Akhter Kiron held a meeting with Titu at BFF House Wednesday after which the decision was taken, confirmed a source of the federation.
The veteran tactician will join the women's team as interim head coach on August 1 for the 19th edition of the Asiad which will take place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou.
This will be the first time Titu, who guided different Bangladesh Premier League clubs before, will be coaching the national women's team.
But he has the experience of working as the women's coaches' instructor.
“It's a big challenge. I think female footballers are more disciplined and hard working. Some of the players from SAFF Championship 2022 winning squad will be missing but I take it as a challenge,” Titu told Dhaka Tribune.
Titu replaces Golam Rabbani Choton, who quit as head coach of the Bangladesh women's team last May after a decade and half in the job.
Bangladesh women's football team will take part in the Asian Games for the first time.
