Bangladesh bolstered their SAFF Championship preparation with a 1-0 win over hosts Cambodia in a FIFA International friendly at National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh Thursday.
Mojibur Rahman Jony scored his first international goal in his third appearance for the men in red and green, striking the all-important goal in the first half.
The midfielder, who made his debut against Seychelles in March this year, volleyed past Cambodian goalkeeper Keo-Soksela in the 24th minute after a long ball found him unmarked inside the box.
It was Bangladesh's only notable chance against an organized opponent in the opening half.
Before that, it was the home side who were dominating possession and creating chances.
They went close to scoring in the third minute when skipper Kouch-Sokumpheak's effort went inches wide off the post.
Just moments before Bangladesh took the lead, Brak-Thiva discovered himself unmarked inside the danger zone with the ball but his shot was blocked.
Sos-Suhana volleyed inches over the crossbar two minutes later before Anisur Rahman Zico punched away Orn Chanpolin's strike from long range before the break.
Sheikh Morsalin made his debut in Bangladesh jersey when he replaced captain Jamal Bhuiyan in midfield before the hour mark.
Mohammad Ibrahim also came in replacing Jony at the same time.
The visitors defended well despite the absence of key center-back Topu Barman as Cambodia enjoyed possession but couldn't pose any real threat inside the box.
Lim Pisoth came on during the second half and got a couple of opportunities but none tested Zico between the sticks.
Thai referee Wiwat Jumpaoon had to splash some cards all of which went against the visiting side.
In-form defender Tariq Kazi received a red card in the last minute of stoppage time but it was his side who had the last laugh.
The victory means Bangladesh continue their unbeaten record against Cambodia despite the former being ranked lower in the FIFA rankings.
They won five times out of six meetings with the other encounter ending in a draw.
Javier Cabrera's side will travel to India Friday for the SAFF Championship, scheduled to begin in Bengaluru this Wednesday.
