Honduras advances, Haiti in Gold Cup upset

Jorge Claros scored in injury-time to lift Honduras to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador on Friday and into the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup football tournament.   Claros scored in the second minute of injury time, snagging a pass from Edder Delgado in the penalty area and belting it past Salvadoran keeper Dagoberto Portillo.   With their second win in two matches Honduras tops the Group B standings with six points.   They became the second team to secure a quarter-final spot, after Group A leaders Panama on Thursday.   In the first match of the Group B double-header, Jean Eudes Maurice scored twice to lead Haiti to a 2-0 upset victory over Trinidad and Tobago.   The win, after a loss to Honduras in their tournament opener, kept Haiti in the hunt for a quarter-final berth. Haiti used their speed to good advantage to pressure the Trinidad goal, and Maurice opened the scoring in the 16th with a shot that beat Trinidad keeper Jan Michael Williams.   He added the insurance goal in the 52nd, pouncing on the loose ball after Williams had deflected a shot.
