Bangladesh Football Federation has decided not to send the women's football team to the first round of the Asian qualifiers of Paris Olympics 2024 due to financial constraint.
Having been placed in Group B, Bangladesh are scheduled to play three matches against Iran, hosts Myanmar and the Maldives in the seven-day qualifying campaign in Yangon, Myanmar from April 5-11.
“Expenditure of air fare, accommodation, practice, food and transportation are supposed to be borne by the respective participating country but the BFF doesn't have the money,” said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag through a video message Wednesday.
“We discussed this with the National Sports Council and Youth and Sports Ministry but haven't received any positive feedback. Having no other option of acquiring fund, BFF has decided that the women's team will not take part in the Olympics qualifiers,” he added.
