Saff U-17 Championship: Bangladesh girls thrash Bhutan 8-1

Bangladesh girls kicked off their Saff U-17 Women's Championship 2023 campaign with a 8-1 thrashing over Bhutan at Birshrestha Shahid Sepahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka Monday.

Trishna Chakma and substitute Thuinuye Marma netted a brace each while Sultana Akter, Sauravi Akanda Prity, Munni Akhter and Sagorika added one apiece.

Trishna gave the hosts the breakthrough with a sitter in the 16th minute after Prity sneaked past onrushing goalkeeper Diktsha Rai to send the ball into an empty net.

She doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a brilliant right-footed finish following a defence-splitting pass from Nusrat Jahan Mitu.

Sultana headed home seven minutes later after the Bhutan keeper failed to clear a free-kick threat.

In the 42nd minute, Prity snatched the ball from a defender to unleash a spectacular finish that swung into far post from a tight angle.

Thuinuye beat the opponent goalie before extending the lead with a placing shot at the hour-mark.

Bhutan got their consolation goal four minutes later through Preya Ghalley but Thuinuye scored again with a header few minutes later.

Sagorika came off the bench to poke the last goal of the match five minutes before the end of stipulated time.

In the day's other match that inaugurated the five-team tournament, India outplayed Nepal 4-1.

Bangladesh will face Russia in their next match at the same venue Wednesday.
