Three foreign-based Bangladeshi footballers join Muktijoddha

Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra have made three new local signings in England-born Samuel Hudson and Mahdi Khan, and UAE-born Manzurul Karim who played in the United States university league.

The trio will be available in the Bangladesh Premier League side's squad for the second phase of the season which starts early next month.

Raja Isa, the Malaysian head coach of the club, confirmed Dhaka Tribune about the new signings of mid-transfer window Wednesday.

Samuel, 20, born in Keighley, UK, was recruited by now defunct Saif Sporting Club during the mid-transfer window last season but the defensive midfielder couldn't earn game time.

Mahdi, 26, was born and raised in London.

The left-winger joined BPL champions Bashundhara Kings in December, 2020 and featured in only 11 matches in two seasons, mainly as substitute.

Karim is a midfielder who played for a local club in United Arab Emirates and was also in Manchester City training camp.

He got a scholarship to study at Lindenwood University in the USA where he played for the university team.

“They [Samuel, Mahdi, Karim] were willing to come, we didn't offer any contract to them. If they fit in my plan, they will play. They must have to perform to get game time,” said Isa.

The Malaysian coach earlier had Qatar-based forward Obaidur Rahman Nawab who moved to Bashundhara later and is currently playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.

The interest of foreign-based Bangladeshi footballers to play in the BPL increased over the last few years but only Denmark-born Jamal Bhuiyan and Finland-born Tariq Qazi managed to make it into the regular playing XI as well as in the national team.
