Excluded Anuching retires, Japanese Sumaya in Bangladesh camp

Bangladesh Football Federation has made four changes in the women's football camp which saw Japan-born midfielder Matsushima Sumaya included and striker Anuching Mogini ruled out.

Sumaya's mother Matsushima Tamomi is Japanese and her father Masudur Rahman Bangladeshi.

She came into BFF's attention in 2020 but this is the first time the coaches called her in the national camp after being impressed by the Japanese-Bangladeshi's recent displays.

Anuching, who had been in the camp for a long time and was in the Saff Women's Championship 2022 winning squad, was excluded from the team.

Sajeda Khatun, also a Saff winning member, is among three others who were omitted from the camp and replaced by Afroza Khatun, Airin Akhter (U-20) and Sagorika (U-17).

The exclusion was not taken lightly by Anuching, a regular member of different youth national teams since 2016, as the 19-year old decided to bid farewell to football.

Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton said the new changes were made after considering their performance in the recently concluded Premier League, and that Anuching has the opportunity to return in future.

There are currently 68 female footballers in the camp and the training sessions are taking place in three phases – U-17, U-20 and senior team.

The senior team are preparing for the Olympic qualifiers, scheduled to begin in the first week of April, while the U-20 team are getting ready for the Saff Championship next month.
