Women’s Football League to begin with record 12 teams

Bashundhara Group Women's Football League 2021-22 is all set to kick off in the capital Tuesday with the participation of a record 12 clubs.

Holders Bashundhara Kings, the two-time champions, will take on Uttara FC in the inaugural match at Birshrestha Shaheed Sepahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium.

The other participating teams are FC Brahmanbaria, Farashganj SC, Cumilla United, Nasrin Sports Academy, Jamalpur Kacharipara Akadas, Suddopuskorini JSC, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan CSC, Siraj Srity Songsod, Barishal FA and Dhaka Rangers FC.

The league will see the highest number of participating clubs than the previous four editions, as the last instalment featured only eight teams.

This time the league will be held in single-leg format in a bid to complete the fixtures in short time as the female footballers have different age-group international competitions early next year.

Kings are clear favorites to win the title for third consecutive time, as they signed most of the players from the national team that won the Saff Championship in Nepal.
