Bangladesh U-15 girls' football team's title hopes in the Saff U-15 Championship suffered a setback after a late goal condemned them to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Nepal at Birshrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka Saturday.
It was Bangladesh's second match and first defeat in the three-team competition after they opened the campaign with a resounding 8-0 win over Bhutan last week.
The home side conceded the goal in the 87th minute when Nepalese forward Barsha Oli placed the ball into the net following a long free-kick.
Bangladesh had a couple of opportunities in the first half but forward Umehla Marma at the quarter-hour mark and Kanom Akter at the end of the half couldn't convert their chances.
Nepal celebrated the victory with ecstatic passion after the game.
The Himalayan nation are having a good run in the tournament as they also defeated Bhutan 7-0 in their opening game to be considered one of the favorites alongside Bangladesh.
Bangladesh and Nepal will take on Bhutan again Monday and Wednesday respectively before the two sides face off in the last game of the round-robin league which would decide the champions.
Nepal never won the regional age-group competition while Bangladesh won once in 2017.
