Muktis sail into last four

A comfortable 2-0 win over Feni Soccer Club in their last group A match powered Muktijoddha KS to the semi-finals of the Grameenphone Super Cup yesterday. Midfielder Zahed Parvez’s spectacular goal took them ahead before Ibrahim put the final nail on the coffin in stoppage time at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The Reds not only needed the win, but also needed Abahani to draw or lose their game against Sheikh Russell in the evening. However, a drawn match between the other giants confirmed Muktijoddha’s proceeding in the cash rich tournament. With the loss, Feni crushed out of the meet.  After a poor in the first-half display, Muktijoddha staged a turnaround just after the breather with skipper Zahed pulling out a stunning goal from 20 yards out. The lead could have been doubled easily, but Biplob missed a sitter six minutes later. Desperately looking for an equaliser, Feni transformed to an all attacking unit which cost them a goal in the dying minutes of the game. They were however, unlucky not to score in the opening half despite triggering several attacks on Muktijoddha. In the first-half, Feni winger Sharan was a constant threat down the left while they were also showing excellent skills of tiki-taka around the penalty area, but the inexperience and lack of finishing ability deprived them of a goal.   Result: Muktijoddha    2-0    Feni     Match Highlights 10’ Easy save.
