Abahani held by Police, Sk Jamal keep winning

A dramatic goal by Brazilian forward Dorielton in the dying moments helped Abahani Limited snatch a valuable point as they played out to a 1-1 draw with motivated Bangladesh Police Football Club in the TVS Bangladesh Premier League Tuesday at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

It was quite an impressive performance by Police who kept their tent unhurt giving no room to Abahani to score and kept a sheet clean till the 77th minute.

Abahani produced a number of goalscoring chances, but due to the packed defence of Police defenders, they repeatedly failed to penetrate the opposition net.

Police’s best moment came in the 77th minute when Brazilian midfielder Denilson Rodrigues Roldão finally broke the deadlock giving his side a deserving lead.

At one stage, it seemed Police would take home all three points from Abahani, but probably there was more drama to be unfolded when Dorielton brought the Sky Blues back into the match scoring a much-needed goal in the third minute of injury time, few seconds before the final whistle.

Police will play their next match against Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited Saturday in Munshiganj while Abahani will take on Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society Sunday at Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi, Gazipur.

Earlier, the popular Dhanmondi outfit got off to an winning start in the league when they beat Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by a solitary goal in Gazipur while Police suffered a lone goal defeat to Saif Sporting Club in Munshiganj.

In Wednesday's matches Rahmatganj will lock horns with Saif Sporting in Munshiganj and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra will face off against Chittagong Abahani Limited.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal recorded their second successive victory in the league when they blanked  Muktijoddha 3-0 in Gazipur.

The day’s win saw Sheikh Jamal secure six points from two matches while Muktijoddha are yet to open their account playing the same number of games.

Nigerian forward Matthew Chinedu struck twice while Gambian striker Solomon King Kanform supported him with a lone goal for Sheikh Jamal who led the first half 2-0.

Sheikh Jamal launched attacks early and took the lead when Solomon found the back of the net in the 20th minute.

Chinedu doubled the lead in the 37th minute while after the breather, he sealed victory notching his second and third goal for Sheikh Jamal in the 55th minute.

Muktijoddha failed to create any real scoring moves in the remaining proceedings and had to leave the field empty handed.

Sheikh Jamal clearly dominated the entire game and grabbed a deserving victory while Muktijoddha were totally off-color.

Muktijoddha meet holders Bashundhara Kings in Munshiganj Saturday.

Earlier, Sheikh Jamal made a winning start in the league when they defeated Uttar Baridhara Club 2-1 in Munshiganj.
