Ctg Abahani off to winning start, MSC and Russel share spoils

Chittagong Abahani Limited got off to a winning start in the TVS Bangladesh Premier League as they came from behind to defeat old Dhaka outfit Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society 2-1 at Birsreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj Saturday.

Nigerian forward Peter Ebimobowei and striker Rubel Miya scored one each for Chittagong Abahani who trailed the first half 0-1.

Nigerian Ghanaian striker Philip Adjah netted the one for Rahmatganj.

Rahmatganj, who showed quality  football in the Federation Cup by reaching the final, had to wait a few minutes to break the deadlock just after starting play.

Philip gave Rahmatganj a deserving lead in the very fourth minute of the match.

The traditional outfight were playing neck and neck with Chittagong Abahani by maintaining their lead till the breather.

After the lemon break, Chittagong Abahani came to the field with a more organized way and reaped the rewards when Peter equalized in the 53rd minute.

Rubel sealed victory scoring the second for the port city out in the 72nd minute.

Chittagong Abahani will play their next match against Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra at Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi while Rahmatganj will meet Saif Sporting Club in Munshiganj.

Both the matches will be held Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Sheikh Russel split points when their match ended in a 1-1 draw in Tongi.

Malian striker Souleymane Diabate scored for Mohammedan while Kyrgyzstan defender Aizar Akmatov bagged the equalizer for Sheikh Russel, who trailed the first half 0-1.

Diabate put Mohammedan ahead in the 23rd minute.

The Black and Whites kept their tent unhurt and went to the breather with a 1-0 lead.

After resumption, Sheikh Russel were desperately trying to stage a fightback and their best moment came in the 84th minute when Akmatov restored parity, snatching victory away from the Motijheel based outfit.

Mohammedan defender Masud Rana was shown a direct red card by referee Saymoon Sany for his unsporting behavior while Sheikh Russel forward Saad Uddin was given the marching orders following his double yellow cards.

Mohammedan will face Swadhinata Krira Sangha Thursday in Munshiganj.
