Like the rest of the country, the Bangladesh national footballers too were beaming with pride and joy after their cricketing compatriots created history Wednesday, posting their first ever win on New Zealand soil, and also creating a myriad of other records along the way.
Bangladesh football team captain Jamal Bhuiyan and his teammates led the tributes and congratulatory messages on social media after Mominul Haque and Co beat the Kiwis by eight wickets in the first of two Tests at Mount Maunganui.
Jamal wrote, "Such an outstandingly inspiring victory by brothers in New Zealand. Congratulations Bangladesh."
Defender Topu Barman, who is currently out with injury, said, "Congratulations Bangladesh on a historic win against Blackcaps! A courageous, skillful performance - one that cricket fans across the world will celebrate."
Midfielder Sohel Rana posted, "Brilliant show by Bangladesh in New Zealand. Congratulations to entire team."
Midfielder Biplo Ahmed said, "Alhamdulilah, the Tigers have been victorious in New Zealand. Thank you Bangladesh."
