Narayanganj DFA strikes big deal with Epyllion

Narayanganj District Football Association (DFA) struck the biggest sponsorship deal among DFAs with Epyllion Group worth Tk7.5m. The three-year contract will see the apparel business firm pay Tk2.5m a year to Narayanganj DFA. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has earlier signed a sponsorship agreement with Prime Bank Limited in December last year to support the upcoming district, divisional and national football leagues which is worth Tk30m. But Narayanganj DFA followed up with a request to BFF to allow them to have their own sponsors. It was also learnt that Khulna and Chittagong DFAs are lining up their own sponsors. Riazuddin al Mamun, a former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and chairman of Epyllion Group, said that the sponsorship deal aims to bring back the festive mood of football in Narayanganj. "Narayanganj was the factory of producing players. When I heard that there has been no football for long time in my district, I feel it’s my responsibility to come forward and make football a regular sport in Narayanganj," said Mamun at the signing ceremony at the BFF House yesterday.  Narayanganj DFA president Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Chunnu expressed his gratitude to Epyllion for becoming the sponsors, saying that they will make proper utilisation of the money. "It is a huge sponsorship deal and the first time in the history of district football in Bangladesh. We will make sure to utilise the money properly. We promise to take district football to its desired destination. We will also provide our support to the Narayanganj academy so that more players are produced," said the former national footballer. Along with the main sponsor, Narayanganj DFA has also roped in Aamra Networks Limited (IT), Inter Sports (kits) and Akij Group (beverage) as co-sponsors. Narayanganj DFA will organise 1st, 2nd and 3rd division football leagues, Under-14 football tournament, Gold Cup football tournament, women's football and women's U-15 football tournament under the banner of Epyllion Group. Epyllion will also provide subsidy for JFA Cup U-15, National Women's Championship, National Women's Super Cup, Inter-District Football Championship and National U-16 championship in this year. Narayanganj’s Epyllion 2nd division football league will get underway in early June with 16 clubs. Each club will be provided with jerseys along with Tk20,000 as participant money. The most prestigious event of the district, the 1st division league is planned to be held in September-October. The top 12 teams of the district will participate in the meet where they will receive Tk40,000 each from the sponsors. Mamun said they will also provide the Narayanganj DFA with technological support to create a data-based website containing club and players' profile.
